Here are my views on our Dave’s ‘BIG Society.’

We've had:-

Roosevelt's 'New Deal',

Lyndon Johnson's 'Great Society',

John Major’s 'A Society at Ease with Itself' and ‘Back to Basics’  

Tony Blair's 'Big Debate' and ‘Cool Britannia’.

So what's new about this 'Big Society'?

Well the Big Society is a poke in the eye for Margaret Thatcher for a start for her much misquoted saying about Society. The full quote is:-

‘There is no such thing as society there are individuals men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It’s our duty to look after ourselves and then to look after our neighbour.

'Big Society' is designed, like garbage recycling, to pass some of the duties of government, national and local, to the hard pressed public but beyond that it'll go no further than all the others mentioned above.

  

It seems strange for a government that has handed over control of much of our national life to Brussels to now try and reverse this by passing the onus back to the public. Of course the fact that so many Councils are responsible, for political reasons, for cutting our services instead of other overheads hardly helps this idea.

Some of the intentions of the ‘BIG Society’ may be good however it has not been accompanied by a commensurate reduction in taxes, in fact just the contrary taxes are going up and those who have diligently saved for old age are having their savings stolen from them by the process of inflationary Quantitative Easing.

While Cameron is now banging on about his 'BIG Society' he appears to be completely impotent as to where our councils should make cuts and of course by refusing us our referendum on the Lisbon Treaty he has virtually handed over control of our foreign policy, judiciary Army and much more to The European Union in Brussels.

Rather than come up with a grandiose idea like his ‘BIG Society’ he should just concentrate on getting back power from Brussels and reducing the size of Government and our taxes.

It has been proved over and over again lower taxes brings in more revenue.

The only ‘BIG idea’ the self confessed Heir to Blair needs is to ‘ CUT GOVERNMENT AND TAXES’ and trust us to do the rest!
