On 27-Sep-2009 Roman Polanski aged 76 was arrested in Zurich Switzerland on a warrant issued in Ameriva 31 years ago when he skipped bail.

Polanski had had sexual intercourse with a minor.

Polanski had committed the offence of 'Statutory Rape'.

His victim was a 13 year old child, Samantha Geimer who subsequently sued Polanski and reached an undisclosed settlement, believed to involve an agreement not to testify against Polanski who was 45 at the time of the rape.

Astonishingly the French Culture Minister and it seems his President believe that children should be permitted to sell Justice and absolve paedophiles.
In Paris, Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said that he was in contact with French President Nicolas Sarkozy "who is following the case with great attention and shares the minister's hope that the situation can be quickly resolved."

Mitterrand added that he was "dumbfounded" by Polanski's arrest, adding that he "strongly regrets that a new ordeal is being inflicted on someone who has already experienced so many of them."

How fortunate that Polanski's wealth was sufficient to buy off his victim, skip Justice in America and be sheltered against extradition for his assault and rape.

The Polanski rape case was a sensation when it broke: He was arrested for having sex with the girl, whom he had hired as a model for a photo shoot at Jack Nicholson's house whilst he was allegedly abscent.

Polanski was accused of giving the child part of a Quaalude pill and champagne, taking her into a hot tub and having sex with her.

Polanski was initially indicted on six felony counts and faced up to life in prison. Instead, he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and the other counts were dismissed.

The maximum sentence he could have faced was 50 years, although prosecutors had said at the time that the typical sentence was 16 months to three years in prison.

This rape took place 8 years after the brutal murder of Polanski's 8.1/2month pregnant wife with 3 friends as one of the victims of The Manson 'Family'.

Sharon Tate's death struck a particularly chilling cord for me as she was a mere 3 years and 2 days older than I and strikingly similar to my partner at the time. I well remember both the killings as they unfolded and the enormity of the crimes as the 9 utterly pointless cult murders passed through the Courts.

The chilling frisson that the girls in the Manson cult were all about my age and the casual manner in which they related the murders.

I noted last Thursday that Susan Atkins had died in prison of complications following a long developing brain cancer and wryly thought that was there a time when her brain was not a cancer!

I seem to have reached that age where funerals are more common than weddings! It was sad to see Farrah slip away after such a brave fight the other day and I could name all too many more!

Then when Roman Polanski was arrested I paused for thought - here was this tortured tiny dynamo and at 76 a part of his life had caught up with him!

Susan Atkins last parole application was turned down on 02-Sep-2009 and having been born 07-May-1948 sentenced first to death on 01-Oct-1969 for her participation in 8 of the 9 Mason 'Family' killings, to which she pleaded guilty the sentence was commuted to life and as a result she was the longest serving femal prisoner in California when she died in prison on September 24, 2009 being some 85% paralysed, unable to sit up with an amputated leg and other complications of progressive brain cancer.

Susan Atkins chillingly indifferent testimony which you can read if you CLICK HERE may explain to you why I see no reason why she should have received one shred of compassion, nor can I understand her ability to have married twice during her prison sentence even enjoying conjugal visits - what compassion did she show when participating in 8 of the known killings of 'The Family'.


Lynette Alice "Squeaky" Fromme (born October 22, 1948) is an American who is a former member of the Manson Family. She was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to assassinate U.S. President Gerald Ford in 1975. After serving 34 years in custody, she was released from prison on August 14, 2009.

As of September 2009, Charles Manson, Charles 'Tex' Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten remain incarcerated, each having failed to obtain parole more than a dozen times since becoming eligible
